পুরানো ঢাকার গল্প: ক্ষুধা লাগলে পেট ভরে খেতে এখানে ছুটে আসি
রাইজিং বেঙ্গল ঢাকা ব্যুরো: এভাবেই কথাগুলো বলছিলেন বাংলাদেশের রাজধানী ঢাকার পুরান ঢাকার নবাবপুরের মদনমোহন অন্নছত্র ট্রাস্টে খেতে আসা মো. কামাল। তিনি জানান, প্রায় ১৫ বছর ধরে বিনামূল্যে তিনি নিয়মিত সেখানে খাচ্ছেন। ১৯২৪ সাল বাংলা তখন ছিল একটাই।
হঠাৎ তৎকালীন পূর্ববঙ্গের ঢাকায় দেখা দিল খাদ্যাভাব। প্রতিদিন না খেয়ে থাকছে বহু মানুষ। পুরনো ঢাকার নবাবপুরের বিখ্যাত জমিদার মদনমোহন পালের তিন ছেলে রজনীকান্ত পাল, মুরলীমোহন পাল আর প্রিয়নাথ পাল ক্ষুধার্ত মানুষের জন্য তাঁদের বাবার নামে একটি অন্নছত্র খুললেন। প্রতিদিন ১২৫ জনকে বিনা মূল্যে দুপুরবেলা খাওয়ানোর ভার নিলেন তাঁরা।
মদনমোহন পাল অন্নছত্র ট্রাস্ট এস্টেট গঠন করলেন ছেলেরা। পুরনো ঢাকার নিজেদের নয়টা বাড়ি লিখে দিলেন ট্রাস্টের নামে।
বর্তমানে সেই নয়টা বাড়ি এখন নয়টা মার্কেট। সেই আয় দিয়েই ট্রাস্ট চলছে। এখানে ধর্ম-জাত-পাতের কোনো ভেদাভেদ নেই। ক্ষুধার্ত অবস্থায় যিনি আসবেন, তিনিই খেতে পাবেন।’ ১২৫ জন দিয়ে অন্নছত্র শুরু হলেও এখন রোজ দুপুরে প্রায় ২০০/৩০০ জনের রান্না হয়। পাচক স্বপন চক্রবর্তী বললেন, ৩৫ কেজি চাল, ১ মণ সবজি আর ৬ কেজি ডাল রান্না করেন তিনি। অন্নছত্রের শুরুর ৯৭ বছর থেকে এ তিনটি পদই রান্না হয়ে আসছে।
এখানে খাবার খেয়ে পরিতৃপ্ত মোবারক হোসেন বলেন, এখানে গত তিন বছর যাবৎ খেতে আসি। কোনদিন খাবার না খেয়ে ফিরে যায়নি। নিজে খেয়ে বউ-বাচ্চাদের জন্যও নিয়ে যাই। আল্লাহর কাছে প্রাণ ভরে দোয়া করি মদনমোহনের পরিবারের জন্য।
