শর্মিষ্ঠা আড়াই দশক ধরে সাংবাদিকতার সঙ্গে যুক্ত। ‘আনন্দবাজার পত্রিকা’র ২২ বছরের ইনিংস শেষ হয় ২০১৮ সালে, অ্যাসিস্ট্যান্ট এডিটর হিসেবে। তার পর এক সহকর্মীর সঙ্গে শুরু করেন নিউজ় পোর্টাল ‘দ্য ওয়াল’। এর আড়াই বছর পরে ২০২১-এ শর্মিষ্ঠা যোগ দিয়েছেন ‘রাইজ়িং বেঙ্গল’-এর প্রধান সম্পাদক হিসেবে। কলকাতা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় থেকে ইংরেজিতে স্নাতকোত্তর শর্মিষ্ঠা সাংবাদিক হিসেবে বিভিন্ন ইভেন্ট কাভার করতে ও বিশেষ আমন্ত্রণে বিশ্বের নানা দেশে গিয়েছেন। সাংবাদিকতার সব ক্ষেত্রেই অনায়াস বিচরণ করেছেন। কিছুদিন মার্কিন সংস্থার হয়ে দোভাষীর কাজ করেছেন। কানাডার সংবাদপত্র টরন্টো সান-এ অভিবাসীদের নিয়ে কলম প্রতিযোগিতায় ‘ট্যালেন্টেড রাইটার’ সম্মান পেয়েছেন। নেশা- লেখালেখি, বই পড়া, বেড়ানো আর গান শোনা।
