যুধিষ্ঠিরের অশ্বমেধের ঘোড়া ধরেছিলেন বাংলার বীরপুত্র তাম্রধ্বজ
পাণ্ডব আধিপত্য প্রতিষ্ঠার লক্ষ্যে অশ্বমেধ যজ্ঞের আয়োজন করেছিলেন ধর্মপুত্র যুধিষ্ঠির। যুধিষ্ঠির মানে এখানে মহাভারতের যুধিষ্ঠির। বিভিন্ন স্থান ঘুরে যুধিষ্ঠিরের সেই অশ্বমেধের ঘোড়া এসে হাজির হয় বাংলার তাম্রলিপ্তে। স্থানটি বর্তমান মেদিনীপুরের তমলুক। তাম্রলিপ্তের অবস্থান সম্পর্কে প্রত্নতত্ত্ববিদ্ আলেকজাণ্ডার কানিংহাম বলছেন, উত্তরে বর্ধমান ও কালনা এবং দক্ষিণে কাঁসাই নদীর তীর পর্যন্ত ভাগীরথী নদীর পশ্চিম তটের সমগ্র ভূ-ভাগ তখন এই তাম্রলিপ্তের অন্তর্গত ছিল।
প্রাচীন ভূগোল গ্রন্থ "দিগ্বিজয় প্রকাশ"-এ তাম্রলিপ্তের অবস্থান সম্পর্কে বলা হচ্ছে, ---
"মঙ্গলঘট্ট দক্ষিণে চ হৈজলস্য চহ্যুত্তরে।
তাম্রলিপ্তা প্রদেশশ্চ বণিকস্য নিবাসভু: ।"
বণিকদের নিবাসভূমি ছিল এই তাম্রলিপ্ত। এটি ছিল একটি সমুদ্র বন্দর। তাই স্বাভাবিকভাবেই এখানে বণিকরা ছিলেন। এই তাম্রলিপ্তের রাজা ছিলেন তখন ময়ূরধ্বজ। তাঁর পুত্র তাম্রধ্বজ।
তাম্রলিপ্ত রাজকুমার তাম্রধ্বজ যুধিষ্ঠিরের অশ্বমেধের ঘোড়া আটক করেন। আর এজন্য অনিবার্যভাবেই পাণ্ডবদের সঙ্গে তাম্রলিপ্তের শাসকের যুদ্ধ বাধে। সেই ভীষণ যুদ্ধে শ্রীকৃষ্ণ ও অর্জুন পর্যন্ত অজ্ঞান হয়ে গিয়েছিলেন। জৈমিনি ভারতের ৪১ থেকে ৪৬ পর্যন্ত অধ্যায়ে বর্ণিত রয়েছে এই কথা।
গিরীন্দ্রশেখর বসু, ডি-এস-সি তাঁর "পুরাণ প্রবেশ" গ্রন্থে রামায়ণের রামচন্দ্র ও কুরুক্ষেত্রের যুদ্ধের সময়কাল নির্ধারণ করেছেন। তাঁর হিসেবে ২, ১২৪ খ্রিস্ট পূর্বাব্দে রামায়ণের রামচন্দ্রের জন্ম এবং কুরুক্ষেত্রের যুদ্ধ হয়েছিল ১, ৪১৬ খ্রিস্ট পূর্বাব্দে।
এখানেই প্রমাণিত হয়েছে মহাভারত যুগে বাঙালিদের বীরত্ব। কিন্তু আজকের দিনের বাঙালিদের মধ্যে সেই বীরত্ব কোথায় গেল? "ভেতো বাঙালি" আবার কবে, কিভাবে বীর বাঙালি হবে, তা ভবিষ্যৎই বলবে।
