প্রতিমন্ত্রী জাকির হোসেন ও তাঁর দলের কর্মীরা নিমতিতা স্টেশনে তিস্তা তোর্সা এক্সপ্রেসের জন্য অপেক্ষা করছিলেন। সেইসময় আচমকা বোমা বিস্ফোরণ হয়। বিস্ফোরণের কারনে বাম পা ও শরীরের বহু জায়গায় আঘাত লাগে। গুরুতর আহত অবস্থায় প্রথমে তাঁকে নিয়ে যাওয়া হয় জঙ্গিপুর মহকুমা হাসপাতালে। সেখান থেকে তাঁকে পাঠানো হয় কলকাতার এসএসকেএম হাসপাতালে।
বর্তমানে তিনি এক মাসের বেশি সময় নিয়ে হাসপাতালে ভর্তি। অসুস্থ থাকার কারনে প্রচারে যোগ দিতে পারেননি। দলের কর্মী ও সমর্থকদের মনোবল বাড়াতে ভিডিওতে একটি বিশেষ বার্তা দিলেন প্রতিমন্ত্রী জাকির হোসেন। তিনি জানিয়েছেন, এলাকাবাসীদের পাশে তিনি আছেন। ২ এপ্রিল কিছু ঘণ্টার জন্য অ্যাম্বুল্যান্সে করে এলাকায় ফিরবেন মনোনয়ন পেশের জন্য। তিনি ধন্যবাদ জানিয়েছেন ফিরহাদ হাকিম ও নির্মল মাজিকে।
