বঙ্গোপসাগর থেকে তৈরি হওয়া গভীর নিম্নচাপ সোমবার সকাল ৯ টা নাগাদ ঘূর্ণিঝড়ে পরিণত হয়েছে। উপগ্রহ চিত্র দেখে স্পষ্ট জানিয়ে দেওয়া হয়েছে আবহাওয়া দফতর থেকে। রবিবার সন্ধ্যে থেকেই এই গভীর নিম্নচাপ পশ্চিমবঙ্গ ও ওড়িশা উপকূলের দিকে অনেকটা এগিয়েছে।'যশ' দিঘা থেকে এখন মাত্র ৬০০ কিলোমিটারের দূরে রয়েছে এবং ওড়িশার পারাদ্বীপ উপকূল থেকে প্রায় ৫৫০ কিলোমিটার দূরে রয়েছে। বুধবার নাগাদ যশ আছড়ে পড়বে পারাদীপ আর সাগরের মাঝে।
হাওয়া ভবন সূত্রে খবর, সোমবার সকালেই এই গভীর নিম্নচাপ ঘূর্ণিঝড় 'যশ' পরিণত হবে। আরও ২৪ ঘণ্টার মধ্যে তা অতি তীব্র ঘূর্ণিঝড়ের আকার নেবে। এই গভীর নিম্নচাপের প্রভাবে উত্তর ২৪ পরগনা, দক্ষিণ ২৪ পরগনা ও পূর্ব মেদিনীপুর জেলায় এদিন হাল্কা থেকে মাঝারি বৃষ্টি হওয়ার সম্ভাবনা রয়েছে। সঙ্গে ঝোড়ো হাওয়া বইতে পারে। এই ঝড়ের গতি হতে পারে ঘণ্টায় ৪০ থেকে৫০ কিলোমিটার। তারপর এই ঝড়ের গতি মঙ্গলবার বিকেলের পর থেকে বেড়ে হতে পারে ঘণ্টায় ৭০ থেকে ৮০ কিলোমিটার। তারপরের দিন অর্থাৎ বুধবার তা আরও বাড়তে পারে।
বুধবার থেকে বৃষ্টির পরিমাণও বাড়বে এবং সেই সঙ্গে হাওয়ার গতিবেগও। হাওয়া দফতর থেকে জানা গিয়েছে, বুধবার ঝড়ের সর্বোচ্চ গতিবেগ প্রতি ঘন্টায় ১৫৫ থেকে ১৬৫ কিলোমিটার হতে পারে। কলকাতা, ঝাড়গ্রাম, দুই মেদিনীপুর, দুই ২৪ পরগনা, হাওড়া, হুগলিতে সবচেয়ে বেশি বৃষ্টি হওয়ার সম্ভাবনা রয়েছে। অন্যদিকে, অতি ভারী বৃষ্টির সম্ভাবনা রয়েছে নদিয়া, বর্ধমান, বাঁকুড়া, পুরুলিয়া, বীরভূমে।
