দেশ তথা বিশ্বের শান্তিপূর্ণ জায়গাগুলির মধ্যে একটি হল পশ্চিমবঙ্গ। বঙ্গবাসী এখানে নিরাপদ বলেই বারবার দাবি করেছেন। পশ্চিমবঙ্গের এক ব্যস্ততম শহর হল কলকাতা, এখানে লক্ষ লক্ষ মানুষ নিজেদের কাজের সূত্রে রাজ্যের বিভিন্ন জেলা থেকে উঠে এসে বসবাস করছে। এমনকি ভিন রাজ্যে এবং দেশের মানুষজনও আপাত ভাবে শান্ত শহরে শহরতলির নিরিবিলি ভাবে বসবাস করছে। সেই নিরাপত্তার সুযোগই কি নিচ্ছে অপরাধীরা?
গোয়েন্দারা জানান, শান্তিপূর্ণ, নিরিবিলি শহর কলকাতা, তাই শহর ও শহরতলির বিভিন্ন এলাকা বেছে নিচ্ছে অপরাধীরা। তবে অপরাধ করার জন্য নয়, অন্য জায়গা থেকে অপরাধ করে এসে লুকিয়ে থাকার জন্য। গত কয়েক বছরে শুধু কলকাতা থেকেই গোয়েন্দারা গ্রেফতার করেছে ২৪ জন সন্ত্রাসবাদীকে। যার মধ্যে ছিল জেএমবি-র জঙ্গি, আল-কায়দার জঙ্গি সহ একাধিক সন্ত্রাসবাদী।
এই বিষয়ে রাজ্য পুলিশের এক অফিসার বলেন, "কলকাতায় বড় বড় তিনটি স্টেশন রয়েছে। সেই স্টেশনগুলোর সঙ্গে যেগুলির অন্যান্য রাজ্যের যোগাযোগ ব্যবস্থা খুব ভাল। পাশাপাশি শহর থেকে মাত্র তিন ঘণ্টার দূরত্বেই আন্তর্জাতিক সীমান্ত, তাই সীমান্ত পার করা খুব সহজ। এখানে লক্ষ লক্ষ মানুষের ভিড়ের মধ্যে বাড়ি ভাড়া নিয়ে গা-ঢাকা দেওয়াও অতি সহজ।"
