ভারতীয় ক্রিকেট বোর্ডের সচিব এক বিশেষ টুপি তুলে দেন ‘লিটল মাস্টার’ এর হাতে। পাশাপাশি, তারই সামনে তার নামে এক বিশেষ ব্যানারের উদ্বোধন করা হয়। এত সন্মান পেয়ে তিনি রীতিমতো আবেগপ্রবণ হয়ে পড়েছিলেন।

এদিন মধ্যাহ্ন ভোজের বিরতির সময় বোর্ড সচিব জয় শাহ এক বিশেষ টুপির মাধ্যমে সুনীল গাওস্করকে সন্মানিত করেন। ওই বিশেষ টুপিতে লেখা আছে, ‘সেলিব্রেটিং ফিফটি ইয়ার্স’। এই প্রসঙ্গে সুনীল ধন্যবাদ জানিয়েছেন দেশকে ও বোর্ডের প্রত্যেক সদস্যকে। এই সবকিছুর মধ্যে থেকে তিনি নস্টালজিক হয়ে পড়েন। তিনি জানিয়েছেন, সেইসময় ইন্টারনেট ছিল না। সেইকারনে ফ্যানদের সঙ্গে কথা বলার সুযোগ ছিল না। কিন্তু তার বাড়ির ঠিকানায় অগণিত চিঠি আসত ফ্যানেদের। কেরিয়ারের খারাপ সময়ে তিনি ওই চিঠিগুলি পরে মনে জোর পেতেন ও উৎসাহিত বোধ করতেন।
