এই বিষয়ে কলকাতা পুরসভা জানায়, পূর্ব প্রস্তুতিতে কোনো খামতি ছিল না। কিন্তু এখন জোয়ারের জন্য গঙ্গার সব লকগেট বন্ধ, ফলে জল নামতে বেশ কিছুটা সময় লাগবে। এর মধ্যে আরও বৃষ্টি হলে পরিস্থিতির অবনতি হবে, সেক্ষেত্রে জল নামতে কতটা সময় লাগবে তা বোঝা মুশকিল।
উল্লেখ্য, কলকাতা পুরসভা থেকে ইতিমধ্যেই শহরে জল জমা রুখতে সদর দফতরের কন্ট্রোল রুমের পাশাপাশি ১৬টি বরো অফিসে কন্ট্রোল রুমও খোলা হয়েছে। প্রতিটি বরোর কন্ট্রোল রুমে রয়েছেন এগজিকিউটিভ ইঞ্জিনিয়ারেরা। এই দুর্যোগের কারণে বহু পুরকর্মীর ছুটিও বাতিল করেছে পুরসভা।
