২০০২ সালের মার্চ মাসে সোরাবজি পদ্মবিভূষণ পান। তিনি তাঁর পেশাগত জীবনের অনেকটা সময় ব্যয় করেছিলেন বাক স্বাধীনতার অধিকার রক্ষা ও সংবাদপত্রের স্বাধীনতার জন্য। এছাড়া তিনি তাঁর জীবনে বহু উল্লেখযোগ্য মামলাও লড়েছেন। সোরাবজি ১৯৫৩ সালে বম্বে হাই কোর্টে পেশাগত জীবন শুরু করেছিলেন। এরপরে ১৯৮৯-৯০ প্রথমবার ও ১৯৯৮-২০০৪ পর্যন্ত দ্বিতীয়বারের জন্য সোরাবজি ভারতের অ্যাটর্নি জেনারেল হন।
সোরাবজি রাষ্ট্রসঙ্ঘের মানবাধিকার রক্ষা সংক্রান্ত কমিশনের চেয়ারম্যান পদে নিযুক্ত ছিলেন। এরপর ১৯৯৭ সালে রাষ্ট্রসঙ্ঘের তরফে নাইজেরিয়ার বিশেষ প্রতিভূ হিসাবেও নিয়োগ করা হয় তাঁকে। এছাড়া তিনি প্রকাশনা সংস্থাগুলির উপর থেকে নিষেধাজ্ঞা এবং নিয়ন্ত্রণ প্রত্যাহার করার ক্ষেত্রেও বারাবার গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা নিয়েছিলেন।
