উল্লেখ্য, গত ১২ মে থেকে ২৩ মে পর্যন্ত, মাত্র ১০ দিনের মধ্যেই গুজরাটের সীমান্ত সংলগ্ন এই জেলায় শিশু ও কমবয়সিদের করোনা আক্রান্তের সংখ্যা দাঁড়িয়েছে ৩১৫ জন। এদের মধ্যে ০ থেকে ৯ বছর বয়সি আছে ৬০ জন এবং তার থেকে বেশি বয়সি নাবালক-নাবালিকাদের মধ্যে আক্রান্তের সংখ্যা ২৫৫ জন। এই ঘটনায় যথারীতি মাথায় হাত পড়ে গিয়েছে প্রশাসনের। তবে প্রশাসনের মতে, একজন তৃতীয় ঢেউ শুরু হয়েছে কি না, এমন কোনও রকম সম্ভাবনাই দেখা যায়নি।
ইতিমধ্যেই চিকিৎসা শুরু হয়ে গিয়েছে ওই শিশুদের। জানা গিয়েছে, দুঙ্গারপুরের যথাযথ ব্যবস্থাপনার জন্য ওই সমস্ত শিশু ও কিশোর-কিশোরীদের সঠিক চিকিৎসা শুরু করা গিয়েছে। এখানে অক্সিজেন কনসেনট্রেটর ও অন্যান্য সরঞ্জাম মজুত আছে। অন্যদিকে শিশুদের ক্ষেত্রে শিশু বিভাগগুলিকে বিশেষ ভাবে তৈরি করা হয়েছে।
