অন্যান্য বছর পুজোর সময় থেকেই সহজলভ্য হয় নতুন আলু। বিক্রি না হওয়া পুরনো আলুর চাহিদা নিম্নমুখী হয় নতুন আলুর স্বাদের দিক থেকে অত্যন্ত মিষ্টি হওয়ার কারণে। সকলেরই ঝোঁক থাকে নতুন আলুর দিকে।
যদিও পুজো বেশ খানিকটা পিছিয়ে হয়েছে এবার। ডিসেম্বর মাসেও লম্বা ইনিংসে আলুর দাম প্রায় হাফসেঞ্চুরি করেও নটআউট এখনও। অথচ ফসলকে সন্তানসম প্রতিপালন করে কৃষকের বরাদ্দ বড়জোড় সেই আট দশটাকা। আলুর মালা পরে বিরোধী এবং সরকারী ভূমিকার রাজনৈতিক চাপানউতোর রয়েছে তুঙ্গে। সদর্থক ভূমিকা নেই কারও বলে অভিযোগ চাষীদের তরফ থেকে।
পশ্চিমবঙ্গ সরকারের পক্ষ থেকে, সুফল বাংলা স্টল এর মাধ্যমে পরিবার পিছু ৩ কেজি করে ২৫ টাকা দরে আলু বিক্রির ব্যবস্থা আছে, তাও প্রয়োজনের তুলনায় একেবারেই যৎসামান্য বলে মত চাষীদের।
এত কিছু জটিল তত্ব না বুঝেই চাষিভাইরা সাধারণের জন্য এবছর অন্যান্য চাষের পরিমাণ কমিয়ে, বাড়াচ্ছেন আলু চাষের পরিমাণ। কিন্তু তাতেও কি দুশ্চিন্তা মিটবে? উৎপাদিত ফসলের আধিক্যের ফলে তারা হয়তো আরও কম দাম পাবেন এ বছর। আর হিমঘরে রেখে ফায়দা তুলবেন মজুতদারেরা।
